I've been collecting crystals for about a year now and I genuinely can't tell if they're doing anything or if I just WANT them to work
like I have rose quartz by my bed and amethyst on my desk and I do feel calmer but... is that just because I expect to feel calmer??
my skeptic brain keeps fighting with my spiritual side lol. I want to believe but I also don't want to be naive about it
what do you guys think? has anyone had experiences that really convinced them either way?
honestly? I think it's both lol
like even if it IS placebo... placebo effects are real effects? your brain is still producing calming chemicals or whatever. so does it matter WHY it works if it works?
I just let myself enjoy my pretty rocks without overthinking it now
I was a total skeptic until I put black tourmaline in my office and my coworker who ALWAYS comes to complain at my desk just... stopped?? like she literally walks past now
could be coincidence but the timing was wild
the way I see it - humans have been using crystals and stones in spiritual practices for thousands of years across totally different cultures that never met each other. that can't ALL be placebo right?
but also even if it is, intention and ritual have power too. holding a crystal and setting an intention is still doing something for your brain
omg I go through this same debate with myself constantly
what helped me was just... stopping trying to prove anything? like I meditate with my crystals, they make me happy, end of story. I don't need it to be scientifically validated to enjoy it
also they're just really pretty so there's that lol
you guys are making me feel so much better about this lol. I think I needed permission to just enjoy them without needing proof
the "placebo is still real" thing actually blew my mind a little ngl
ok so I'm a chem major and I used to be SO dismissive about crystals lol
but honestly? I started keeping a piece of citrine on my desk during finals and whether it "worked" or not I genuinely studied better. like I associated it with focus and that association became real for me
our brains are pattern machines. if holding a rock helps you build a positive mental pattern then... that IS it working?? the mechanism doesn't have to be mystical for the result to be real
idk I stopped needing it to be one or the other. science brain and crystal brain coexist peacefully now lol
