ok so I love my dad obviously but we are like oil and water lol
im a leo sun and hes a capricorn and I swear every conversation turns into him giving me a lecture about being more practical or thinking about the future. like I GET IT dad but can I just enjoy my life rn??
he thinks im irresponsible because I want to pursue creative stuff instead of a "stable career" and I think hes too rigid and never lets himself have fun
any other leos with capricorn parents? how do you deal with this without losing your mind
omg YES my capricorn mom is the same way!! she means well but the constant criticism about my choices is exhausting
what helped me was realizing she shows love through trying to protect me from struggle, even if it comes out as lectures. still annoying but easier to handle lol
This is actually one of the more challenging parent-child combinations in astrology. Leo and Capricorn form a quincunx aspect - 150 degrees apart - which means they speak completely different languages.
Leo leads with heart and self-expression. Capricorn leads with structure and legacy. Neither is wrong, just different operating systems.
The good news? Both signs are incredibly loyal and actually share a drive for achievement - you just define success differently. Try framing your creative pursuits in terms he understands: goals, timelines, measurable progress. Not because you need to prove yourself, but because it gives him something to connect with.
capricorn dad leo daughter here too! it gets better I promise. once I hit my late 20s and he saw I could actually take care of myself he relaxed a LOT
I think caps just need to see evidence that youre gonna be ok, then they can chill
honestly the quincunx thing explains so much. my whole family is earth signs and im the only fire sign lol its chaos
leo with a cap dad checking in lol
honestly what helped me was framing my creative stuff in terms he could understand? like instead of "i want to pursue art" i started saying things like "heres my 3 year plan to build a sustainable freelance business"
he still doesnt fully get it but at least now he sees im not just winging it. capricorns respect strategy even if they dont understand the passion part
also just wanna say - the fact that you WANT to understand each other is huge. some people just write off their parents completely
ok so update because you guys actually helped so much
I tried what FireSignKid said about framing things in terms he'd get. instead of "I want to pursue art" I said something like "I've been researching freelance illustration and here's my plan for building a client base and hitting X income within a year"
and you guys... he actually LISTENED?? like he still had his concerns but he asked follow up questions instead of just shutting it down. I almost fell off my chair lol
I think the capricorn in him just needed to see that I had a plan and wasn't just winging it. which honestly fair enough
we're not like best friends now or anything but it felt like the first real conversation we've had about my future in years. like he saw ME for a second and not just his irresponsible leo daughter
thank you all seriously. especially the other fire signs in earth families - knowing I wasn't alone in this helped more than you know
omg I found this thread searching for literally this exact thing and sunny_soul's update made my whole day
I'm a leo with a capricorn dad too and the "lecture about being practical" thing is SO real lol. I've been dreading bringing up my music stuff with him
but framing it with goals and timelines... I never would've thought of that. gonna try this weekend. fingers crossed it goes as well as yours did!!
aries with a cap mom here and this thread is so relatable lol
tried the exact same thing - started framing everything like "here's my plan and here's the timeline" and she actually listened for once?? like she didn't change overnight but the conversation stopped feeling like an interrogation
so glad it worked for you too!! fire signs with earth parents unite honestly
just found this thread and sunny_soul's update genuinely made my day. my capricorn dad is the exact same way, constant lectures about being "realistic" whenever i bring up anything creative
gonna try the goals-and-timeline framing next time it comes up. never thought about translating my plans into something that sounds more structured to him, feels like it could actually work
