so my husband and I are both Cancers and I see so many posts online saying same-sign couples are intense or too much... and honestly? they're not wrong lol but also not the full picture
we've been together 11 years, married 8, and the thing nobody warns you about when two Cancers fall in love is that you BOTH feel everything deeply. like fights aren't just fights, they're entire emotional journeys. we don't just argue about dishes, we process our childhoods about dishes somehow??
but here's what also nobody tells you: when it works, it works on a level that's hard to describe to people with more "logical" partners. my husband just GETS it when I need to stay home instead of going out. I never have to explain why I'm crying at a commercial. he already knows.
the hard part we had to learn: neither of us is naturally good at conflict. we're both avoiders. we had to get into couples therapy in year 4 because we were just... not talking about things and then withdrawing into our shells at the same time lol. that was rough.
therapy genuinely saved us. we learned how to be the first one to reach out after a fight instead of waiting. that was huge for us.
anyone else in a Cancer + Cancer relationship? curious how others navigate the emotional intensity
omg I needed this post so much. my boyfriend and I are both Cancers (we figured this out like 3 months in and were like... oh that explains EVERYTHING)
the childhood thing during arguments is SO accurate it's almost funny. we've had full-on conversations about our parents in the middle of an argument about groceries lol. we both realized we were basically working through old stuff together
we're only 2 years in but therapy is already on the table for us because of exactly what you described - we both go quiet when we're hurt and then we're both waiting for the other to reach out first. it becomes this standoff where neither of us actually wants the distance but neither of us moves first
glad to hear it's workable with the right tools. gives me hope honestly
the part about "processing your childhoods about dishes" is sending me because my Cancer partner and I literally did this last week. started as a conversation about cleaning and somehow ended up talking about how our moms made us feel growing up??
I think two Cancers together creates this thing where you just... go deeper than the surface fight automatically. which is hard but also kind of beautiful once you learn to work with it instead of against it
thank you for sharing this btw. I always see people online saying same-sign couples are doomed and this gave me a completely different way of looking at it
for anyone who finds this later - still going strong. the biggest shift for us was just naming the pattern out loud when we notice it happening ("hey i think we're doing the withdrawing thing") instead of pretending we don't see it
this is giving me hope, im dating a fellow cancer and everyone keeps warning me its gonna be too intense. good to hear it can actually work with some effort
