ok so I feel like I finally get the king of cups upright. emotionally balanced, wise, calm, kind of like that therapist friend who always knows what to say lol
but reversed?? I've seen SO many different interpretations and I genuinely don't know which one to use
some sources say manipulation - like he's using emotional intelligence for bad. others say emotional repression - like he's shut down and disconnected. and some say he's just... volatile? angry beneath the surface?
those feel like completely different people to me. how do you guys distinguish which meaning fits when you pull him reversed? do you go by the surrounding cards or just gut feeling?
Oh this is such a good question and honestly the confusion makes total sense - king of cups reversed is one of the most nuanced cards in the deck!
The way I read it: all three meanings (manipulation, repression, volatility) are actually the same wound expressed differently. The king of cups upright has mastered his emotional world. Reversed, that mastery has broken down somehow.
The cards around him usually tell you HOW it's broken down:
Trust your inner knowing too. If the spread is about a specific person, your gut will often signal which flavor feels true.
wait the surrounding cards thing is SO helpful omg
I pulled him reversed last week with the 5 of swords and now that makes way more sense
I always ask myself 'which version of this person am I seeing' when I pull court cards reversed
like is this someone in my life who fits? or is it an energy within myself? that usually narrows it down a lot for me
ok this is all really clicking for me!! I think I was trying to find one fixed meaning and that was the whole problem
going to look at what's around him next time instead of just staring at him going 'but which one are you' lol. thank you all!!
