so I've been trying to wrap my head around this for weeks lol
upright eight of swords is all about feeling trapped, kind of a self-imposed prison built from limiting beliefs, right? but reversed just feels murkier to me
like is it releasing yourself from that trapped feeling, finally seeing a way out? or does it mean you're STILL stuck but now in denial about it??
i keep reading different things depending on the source and now i genuinely cant tell if pulling it reversed is good news or a warning lol. anyone have a clear way they think about the difference?
Oh I love this question because it trips up so many readers! The cards whisper something subtle here...
Upright, you're the one who's built the mental cage - the limiting beliefs, the story that you have no options. Reversed usually means one of two things is happening: either you're starting to see the way out (the blindfold is finally slipping), or you're aware you're stuck but haven't taken the step to actually walk away yet.
The context cards around it usually tell you which one. If there's release energy nearby, lean toward the freeing interpretation. If it's surrounded by stagnant energy, it's more the 'aware but stuck' version.
Trust your gut on which one feels true when you look at the spread as a whole.
wait this actually helped me understand a reading I got last month?? I pulled it reversed and didn't know what to make of it lol
following this bc i always get confused on this card too. the blindfold slipping thing is such a good way to picture it
ok the context cards thing makes so much sense. mine had a card right next to it that felt like release energy so I'm gonna go with the 'finally seeing the way out' read. feels right honestly
