so I get the whole 'trapped in your own head' vibe with 8 of swords upright pretty easily. but reversed keeps confusing me??
like some sources say it means you're finally seeing the way out. others say it can mean you're stepping right back into that same trapped mindset, just relapsing basically
how do you personally tell the difference when you pull it? is it just vibes/intuition or is there an actual pattern you use
In all my years of reading, I've found the eight of swords reversed usually announces itself by how it feels in your body when you draw it. If pulling it brings relief - like exhaling a breath you didn't know you were holding - that's the liberation reading. If it brings a tightening, a familiar dread, that's often the relapse into old patterns.
The old ways teach us that the cards mirror what's already stirring inside us. Trust that gut reaction over any book definition.
honestly I just look at the surrounding cards. if there's stuff like the star or ace of wands nearby I lean toward the 'breaking free' reading, if its next to like the devil or nine of swords I read it as backsliding
this is helpful bc I always just defaulted to 'oh its good now' for every reversed card lol. gonna start paying more attention to how the pull actually feels
