so I've been doing my own thing for a few years now - tarot, some astrology, general spiritual stuff - but I've always done it solo. my friends don't really get it and my family thinks it's weird lol
recently I've been wanting to actually talk to people about this stuff? like actually discuss a reading or ask someone what their experience has been with a certain card or sign
but idk where to start honestly. local groups feel awkward, most online spaces are either too woo-woo or too academic for me
anyone else been through this? how did you end up finding your community?
omg this is literally me 3 years ago. I felt so isolated with it for such a long time
for me it honestly started with just commenting on forums like this one lol. low stakes, nobody knows you, you can just... talk about the stuff you actually care about
the local group thing I totally get. I tried a few and they were either super serious ceremonial magic types or very ~blessed be~ in a way that felt performative to me
I ended up finding my people through a book club someone started on discord for a tarot book. like way more specific than just 'spiritual group' and somehow that made it way more comfortable
In all my years of practice, I've found that community finds you more often than you find it. When you start being open about your path - even just mentioning it casually - the right people tend to appear.
That said, the most lasting connections I've made have been through shared study rather than shared belief. Find someone curious about the same questions, not necessarily someone who believes exactly the same things. That keeps the conversation alive.
This forum is a genuinely good starting point. I've seen real friendships form here over time.
these responses are making me feel way less alone about being alone haha
the discord idea is interesting - I've avoided those because I assumed they'd be overwhelming but a smaller focused one makes sense. and Margaret that's a really good reframe, shared curiosity not shared belief. gonna sit with that
