how do you actually read the hermit reversed vs upright?
ok so I feel like I understand the hermit upright pretty well - introspection, solitude, inner wisdom, taking time alone to figure stuff out
but reversed? I've seen so many different interpretations and idk which one resonates
some sources say its like... forced isolation or loneliness. others say its about coming OUT of hermit mode and rejoining the world. and then some say its about ignoring your inner voice??
how do you guys personally distinguish between the two? do you lean more toward one interpretation or does it depend on context?

honestly for me it depends so much on the surrounding cards and what I'm asking about
like if I'm asking about relationships and hermit reversed shows up, I read it as isolation that's become unhealthy or avoiding connection. but in a career reading it might mean coming out of a learning phase
The Hermit is one of my favorite cards to read reversed because it carries such nuance.
Upright, the lantern guides YOU inward. Reversed, imagine that lantern pointed outward - you've done the inner work and now it's time to share your wisdom with others. Or alternatively, the light has gone out and you're stumbling in darkness, disconnected from your inner knowing.
I always ask: is this person isolating to heal, or isolating to hide? That question usually reveals which interpretation fits.
Trust your intuition on this one. The card will whisper its meaning if you listen.
the lantern metaphor is so good omg
I never thought about it as the light pointing outward vs going out. that actually helps a lot
wait the lantern thing makes so much sense actually. thank you all for explaining it this way - I think I was trying to memorize meanings instead of understanding the energy of it
