ok so I've been reading with my rider waite for years and four of wands reversed always felt like... idk, celebration delayed? unstable foundation type energy?
but I just got the wild unknown deck and pulled it reversed yesterday and it hit completely different. the imagery is so stark - those wands look like they're barely holding together, almost like a house of cards about to fall
has anyone else noticed how much the deck changes how you interpret reversed cards? I feel like I'm seeing this card for the first time
omg YES the wild unknown four of wands reversed is intense. I feel like the more abstract decks really bring out the shadow side of cards in a way RWS doesn't always capture
which deck do you prefer for reversals overall?
this is so interesting!! I never thought about how deck imagery changes reversal meanings. now I want to compare across my decks lol
I had a similar experience with the same card in the fountain tarot. the four of wands reversed there has this weird haunted vibe to it that made me completely rethink unstable foundations in my readings
some decks just speak louder for certain cards imo
oh wait the fountain tarot sounds interesting! might need to add that to my wishlist lol
@WillowBreeze honestly I think I still prefer RWS for reversals overall bc the imagery is so clear? but wild unknown is making me see things differently which I appreciate
the wild unknown is SO good at capturing the emotional vibe of cards even when the imagery is totally different from rws
like technically the 4 of wands is about celebration and stability but reversed theres this tension... and the way kim krans draws it you really FEEL that instability
its funny bc some decks just flip the image upside down for reversals but the wild unknown actually captures the energy shift
yes!! the deck art totally changes how the reversal hits
I read with the light seer's tarot and the four of wands reversed there has this almost lonely vibe to it? like the celebration is happening but you're watching from outside
completely different energy than rider waite where it's more like the party got cancelled lol
honestly I think that's why I love collecting decks... each one brings out different layers of meaning
this is why I ended up with like 5 decks lol
I have the wild unknown too and yeah the four of wands reversed in that one feels almost... unstable? like the branches are about to fall
but in my rider waite it just looks like a slightly wonky celebration. same card totally different energy
the modern witch tarot does something cool with this one too - the reversed version really emphasizes the disconnect from community
wait ok this thread is making me want to get a second deck
I only have the classic rider waite rn and some of the reversals feel kinda... boring? like just upside down versions
any recs for a deck where the artwork really changes the meaning of reversals? I love the wild unknown aesthetic but open to others too
