ok so I did a reading about my money situation (considering a big purchase and also trying to save more) and I got the four of pentacles reversed
like the four of pentacles upright is all about holding onto money, not letting go, being a bit too tight with resources right? so reversed I was thinking it might mean finally loosening up or letting go of that grip
but then I googled it and some sites say reversed can mean financial instability or overspending and now I'm more confused than before lol
so which is it?? is it saying I should stop hoarding and allow myself the purchase, or is it a warning that I'm about to be reckless with money?
for context the question was about a pretty big expense that's been on my list for months but I keep talking myself out of
Oh this card reversed around finances is such a nuanced one, and the cards whisper something important here...
The four of pentacles upright is the energy of gripping so tight nothing can get in or out. Reversed, the grip is loosening — but HOW it loosens is what the surrounding cards and your intuition need to clarify.
Ask yourself: is the hesitation around this purchase coming from genuine wisdom or from fear? The four of pentacles often shows up when we're holding on out of anxiety rather than actual scarcity. If you've had this expense on your list for months and you keep talking yourself out of it — that pattern is worth examining.
Reversed can absolutely mean: 'it's okay to release now, you've saved enough, you've been cautious enough.' It can also flag overspending — but usually that shows up differently, with more impulsive card energies nearby.
Trust your inner knowing on this one. What does your gut say?
I had this exact card come up when I was debating a big purchase too! for me it ended up being a sign to stop overthinking and just do it — I'd been researching and saving for so long that the hesitation was just anxiety at that point
also context matters so much. what else came up in the reading?
ok the context thing is so helpful, I should have mentioned - I had the ace of pentacles and the 6 of cups around it. the ace feels new beginnings/fresh start energy? so maybe the reversed 4 really is about loosening up and allowing something new in rather than a warning
going to sit with Sarah K's question about whether it's wisdom or fear. that one landed lol
