okay so I've been reading for about 8 months now and pulled the eight of swords reversed for the first time last night??
I know upright it's about feeling trapped, victim mentality, all in your head kind of stuck. but reversed I've seen people say both 'breaking free' AND 'still trapped but not realizing it' which feel like the exact opposite of each other lol
is it always a good sign when it flips? or does it depend a lot on the position/spread it's in? genuinely confused but also kind of hopeful
Such a good question to sit with! The cards whisper both truths here, and that's exactly why it can feel confusing.
Eight of Swords reversed is often the moment you start realizing the cage was never locked - but 'starting to realize' isn't the same as 'fully free' yet. It usually points to a mindset shift happening, not an instant fix.
Look at what surrounds it in your spread. Near hopeful cards, it leans toward release. Near cards about old patterns, it can mean you're still catching yourself in the same thought loops. Trust your inner knowing about which one fits your situation.
omg I got this exact card last month and was SO confused too. for me it ended up meaning i finally saw how much i was talking myself out of stuff before even trying
following this bc I always mix up reversed 8 of swords with reversed devil lol they feel similar to me
