so I pulled eight of pentacles yesterday but reversed and now I'm stuck because every meaning I find online for the upright version is basically 'hard work pays off, mastering a skill' and then the reversed ones just say 'lack of focus' or 'perfectionism' and idk it feels kind of vague??
like is it just the upright meaning but weaker? or is there something actually different happening energetically
asking because I want to actually understand the logic behind reversals instead of just memorizing keyword lists lol. anyone have a way of thinking about this that actually clicked for them
Oh I love this question because it gets at something deeper than keyword memorizing!
With eight of pentacles, upright is steady, focused mastery - showing up every day to hone a skill. Reversed isn't just 'weaker effort,' it's more like the energy is scattered or misdirected. Maybe you're working hard but on the wrong thing, or you're being a perfectionist to the point of never finishing, or you're going through the motions without real engagement.
Ask yourself: am I actually invested in what I'm grinding away at right now? Trust your inner knowing on this one - the card is usually pointing at a mismatch between effort and meaning.
this is such a good way to put it, the 'mismatch between effort and meaning' thing is going to live in my head now
honestly this happened to me with my job. was grinding SO hard at something I didn't even like anymore and pulled this card like 3 times in a month lol. took the hint eventually and it was the right call
ok the job example really resonates actually. I think I've been perfecting something that doesn't even matter that much to me anymore. gonna sit with that. thank you all!!
