so I've been really stuck about whether to start looking for a new job or stay where I am. I've been unhappy for a while but also scared to leave because benefits and stability ya know
did a little spread asking what I should do and pulled the eight of swords reversed as the advice card
now I know the eight of swords upright is about feeling trapped, mental restrictions, that kind of thing. and reversed is supposed to be about breaking free and releasing self-imposed limits
but like... HOW?? the card says break free but from what exactly? my actual job situation is real not just in my head. I can't just positive-think my way into better benefits lol
or am I misreading this? does eight of swords reversed as advice mean something different than "just escape"?
Oh I love this question because it gets at something really important about reversed cards in the advice position.
The Eight of Swords reversed as advice isn't telling you to leap out the door tomorrow - it's pointing at where the real restriction is living. The cards whisper: the thing keeping you stuck isn't the job, it's the story you're telling yourself about what leaving would mean.
"I can't afford to lose the stability." "What if nothing better is out there?" "Maybe I'm just not brave enough." Those invisible blindfolds - that's what the Eight reversed wants you to take off.
The practical path forward? Start from curiosity rather than desperation. Update your resume. Browse listings without any pressure to apply. Have one coffee chat with someone in a field you're curious about. The card isn't demanding you jump - it's asking you to loosen the blindfold just enough to see what's actually around you.
Trust your inner knowing here. You already sense there's more.
this interpretation is so good. I got the same card in an advice position last year and I kept waiting for some dramatic "escape moment" but it was actually about just... starting to look. the action was smaller than I expected
wait the "story you're telling yourself" reframe is really hitting me right now and I'm not even the one who asked lol
I keep saying I can't leave my situation for Similar Reasons and now I'm wondering if that's all just the blindfold
Sarah K the phrase "curiosity rather than desperation" is going in my journal immediately. that's exactly the energy shift I needed
I think I've been treating it like a binary (stay = safe / leave = scary) and the card is pointing at a whole middle ground I wasn't looking at. going to start just... looking. no pressure
