ok so I just counted and I have 14 tarot decks sitting on my shelf
FOURTEEN. and I'm looking at a new one online rn lol
my partner keeps asking why I need so many when I only read with like 2 of them regularly. and honestly... I don't have a good answer??
part of me thinks I should just go deep with one deck instead of collecting. like maybe I'd actually get better if I committed to one.
but also different decks REALLY do hit different. the same card in my Rider-Waite looks completely different than in my Wild Unknown and I swear I get different insights from each one
anyone else in this boat? do you pick a main deck and stick with it or do you think having multiple is actually useful for your practice?
omg yes!! I have like 9 decks and I tell myself each one has a different 'energy' for different questions lol
but honestly I probably use 3 of them 90% of the time. the rest just look pretty on the shelf
This is such a beautiful question to sit with! The cards whisper differently through different artistic lenses - that's genuinely real, not just collector's justification.
That said, there's deep wisdom in working with one deck long enough to know every card like an old friend. When you reach that intimacy, readings take on a whole new depth.
My suggestion: keep your collection, but choose ONE deck for daily pulls for the next month. Notice how that focused relationship feels. Trust your inner knowing about what serves your practice.
the rider waite vs wild unknown comparison is SO true. the wild unknown death card hits so differently than the classic imagery, it actually helped me stop being scared of that card
so yeah I think multiple decks can genuinely teach you different things
wait 14 is a lot but also impressive ngl
I'm at 6 and already feel like I have too many. my rule now is I have to get rid of one before buying another but I keep breaking it
sarah k that's actually really helpful!! going to try the one-deck-for-a-month thing
bomster lol the one-in-one-out rule is genius. might steal that
