ok so i did a 3 card spread about whether to go back to school for my masters degree
past: the star (makes sense, i've been dreaming about this for years) present: 8 of pentacles (literally me grinding at my current job) future: ace of swords REVERSED
the ace of swords is supposed to be about mental clarity and breakthroughs right?? so reversed in my future position feels like... bad news?
like am i gonna make the wrong decision? or is it saying i wont have clarity about it for a while?
kinda freaking out a little tbh. anyone have experience with this card in future positions?
ok so don't panic!! ace of swords reversed in future doesn't mean "bad decision incoming"
it usually means the clarity will come but maybe not right away? like you might need to sit with the decision longer before it fully clicks. or there could be some confusion/miscommunication to work through first
with the star in your past and 8 of pents present, it honestly looks like you've been doing the work and the dream is real. the reversed ace might just be saying "don't rush into it expecting instant certainty"
also fwiw the 8 of pentacles is literally the card of going back to school/mastering a skill so... that feels like a good sign to me
Oh I love this spread! The cards whisper a really encouraging story here.
The Ace of Swords reversed in the future position often speaks to internal clarity rather than external. It's not saying "this is the wrong choice" - it's more like "trust your gut over overthinking."
With your Star in the past (the dream, the hope) flowing into 8 of Pentacles present (the dedication, the skill-building), that reversed Ace might be telling you: the answer isn't going to come from more research or pro/con lists. It'll come from trusting what you already know deep down.
Ask yourself: if you weren't worried about making the "wrong" choice, what would you do?
not to be dramatic but i got ace of swords reversed before starting my certification program and i was SO worried
turned out it just meant the first semester was confusing af (new systems, imposter syndrome, etc) but once i pushed through it everything clicked
so maybe it's not about whether to go - maybe it's just saying the beginning might feel foggy and that's normal?
hey everyone just wanted to come back and say thank you for all the replies, seriously. I read through everything like three times lol
so... I applied. actually submitted my application last week and I feel really good about it?? like the moment I hit send I just had this calm feeling which I never expected
I think what Sarah K said about trusting my gut really stuck with me. and midnight_magpie your story about the similar card helped so much - knowing someone else went through that and it worked out
I'm starting to think the ace of swords reversed wasn't saying "dont do it" but more like "make sure you're doing this for the right reasons and not just because it looks good on paper." and honestly that reflection made me way more confident in my decision
whatever happens with the application, I already feel like I grew just from sitting with the uncertainty instead of running from it. so thank you all for that
